Weekly Theme Park Update 3/31/23

The Disney vs. DeSantis Drama Continues

News came out this week that before turning control over to DeSantis’s board, the Reedy Creek Improvement District board made a 30+ year deal granting Disney control over much of their property, including building permits and infrastructure. You can read about the whole ordeal here.

The Art of Animation resort has some of my favorite theming

TRON ride at Magic Kingdom officially opens next week

Cash and I got our ride photos this week from our AP pass holder ride night!

Just a reminder that this ride will have a Virtual Queue, meaning you need to log onto the My Disney Experience app at 7am to get a spot. If you miss it, you can try again from the park (you cannot sign up from outside the park) on your phone at 1pm.

This ride is in soft opening right now and is wildly popular already. We tried to snag a spot last weekend and it’s the first time I’ve ever not been able to get a VQ when I tried for one. So definitely try for it, but remember to be patient, and don’t count on getting a spot.

Megacon Orlando is happening in Orlando this weekend

Okay, so this isn’t technically theme park news, but let’s be honest- it’s the same crowd. Cash and I are attending one day this weekend.

Megacon Orlando is held at the Orange County Convention Center over four jam-packed days. Last year, we had lots of fun in their Nerf war room, playing vintage video games, walking around the convention floor, and- my favorite- checking out all the cosplayers.

Hopefully, we’ll have lots of fun photos and stories to share next week!

Halloween Horror Nights tickets are on sale

While the rest of the world eagerly anticipates spring weather, HHN die-hards are scooping up Halloween haunted house tickets. HHN is Universal Orlando’s biggest separately ticketed event, which runs on select dates during September and October. There are many options to choose from- you can get a normal event ticket, then spring for an express pass for the haunted houses. They also have exclusive R.I.P. and Behind the Screams tours. You can book these experiences alone or as part of a resort package. Reach out to me if you’d like more information.

Happily Ever After fireworks show returns to Magic Kingdom

Disney Enchantment- the current fireworks show at MK- retires on April 2 to make way for the return of Happily Ever After. HEA, a fan favorite, debuted in 2017, then was replaced by Disney Enchantment for the 50th Anniversary of Disney World celebration. Now it’s coming back and has been updated to include new projections and other improvements. There was a cast member preview recently, and all of the reviews have been very positive. You can view it here and here if you’re interested.
