Theme Park Update 4/14/23

Whoops! I had company last week and was having so much fun that I forgot to update you on the goings-on. I’ll make up for it this week with lots of news!

Disney is selling annual passes again!

Disney announced that they will resume selling annual passes for both Disney World and Disneyland. Disneyland’s Magic Keys went back on sale this past Tuesday, April 11 and Disney World will resume their sales next week on April 20th.

Cash and I have the Sorcerer pass with the Sports and Water Park and Photopass options, and we love them.

If you are curious if an annual pass would be right for you, I wrote a post this week breaking down the cost and benefits.

Beloved ride closing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

It may not be the most popular attraction at Islands of Adventure, but many fans (Cash and I included) will miss Poseidon’s Fury when it closes its doors for good on May 9th, 2023.

We’ll miss the water tunnel and the excellent air conditioning. When Cash was small, he figured out precisely where to stand to get “picked” to lead everyone into the cavern and would always leave everyone laughing with his quick responses.

We are planning a trip to Universal soon and will be sure to ride it one last time. With Sinbad’s theater also sitting empty, this gives Universal a chance to put in something very cool. Though hopefully, they won’t do away with the theming completely- we don’t want to say goodbye to the talking fountain and Mythos as well!

Disney drops more details about Splash Mountain’s replacement: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney announced this week that Mama Odie will be joining the cast of the new ride, as well as a few other details:

  • A fresh ensemble of Disney originals, each with their own distinct identity and names.

  • Numerous brand-new Audio-Animatronics figures to captivate audiences.

  • Endearing creatures displaying incredible talents, serving up a medley of musical flavors from the streets of New Orleans!

  • An array of fresh, original music intermixed with beloved tracks from the movie.

  • Are you as big of a fan of beignets as Louis? You're in luck, as the tempting aroma of these delicious treats being prepared for the celebration will waft through the attraction queue!

  • Notable vocal talents from the film, such as Bruno Campos in the role of Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and the incomparable Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana, will be reprising their characters.

  • Joining the lineup are familiar faces from the film, including Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, Louis, Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia, and Prince Ralphie.

They also announced an official closing date for Splash Mountain at Disneyland: May 31, 2023.

Universal is giving Disney a run for their money on cutest popcorn bucket

This week Universal released a Toothless popcorn bucket- one of the cutest we’ve seen. It lights up and its wings move. I’ve got my fingers crossed that they’ll still be in stock in two weeks for our next visit- this is one souvenir you don’t want to miss!
