Guide to Butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

What Is Butterbeer?

Butterbeer is the most popular drink at Universal Studio’s Harry Potter World. It is non-alcoholic, tastes like butterscotch, and is featured in the books and movies as a favorite drink of Harry and his friends. Grabbing a Butterbeer is part of the iconic Harry Potter experience.

Where Can I Get A Butterbeer?

There are a few different locations where you can purchase Butterbeer. You can get one in Diagon Alley (Universal Studios) at the Leaky Cauldron, The Hopping Pot, and The Fountain of Fair Fortune. In Hogsmeade (Islands of Adventure), you can get one at The Three Broomsticks, The Hog’s Head, and at one of two different carts on the streets of Hogsmeade.

Tip: If you’re looking for the shortest lines, I highly recommend The Fountain of Fair Fortune (Diagon Alley) or the Hog’s Head (Islands of Adventure). Both are off the beaten path and less likely to have a wait.

The Hog’s Head is part of the Leaky Cauldron but has a separate entrance and line. They serve Butterbeer, alcoholic beer, and several other drinks you can order and pay for without waiting in the food line. The booths in this area are just like the Hog’s Head in the movie, and this is my favorite place to grab a pint.

The Fountain of Fair Fortune is a walk-in shop where you can grab drinks only. It’s right across from the Magical Menagerie, in between the exit for Knockturn Alley and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream parlor. They also serve alcoholic beer and a few other beverages.

What Types Of Butterbeer Are There?

Butterbeer-flavored treats are offered in various forms throughout the parks.

Drinks: You can order the beverage hot, cold, or frozen.

The cold and frozen versions are offered at all of the locations mentioned above, but if you’d like to try the hot version, you’ll need to ignore my sage advice above and get some at The Leaky Cauldron, The Hopping Pot, or The Three Broomsticks.

Ice Cream

The Hopping Pot and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream parlor offer Butterbeer flavored ice cream, as does The Three Broomsticks.

Fudge

Butterbeer-flavored fudge (butterscotch and shortbread flavored) can be found at the candy shops in each park: Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop in Diagon Alley or Honeydukes in Hogsmeade. While you’re there, you should also pick up some of my favorites: Their peanut butter and chocolate fudge are fantastic!

Potted Cream

This British treat is Butterbeer-flavored at both restaurants: The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley or The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade.

If You Prefer A Real Beer

The Wizarding World has its own locally crafted brews! I’ve tried all of them, and they are all delicious.

  • Wizard’s Brew- Milk Stout, FL Beer Co. (Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade)

  • Dragon Scale- Red Lager, FL Beer Co. (Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade)

  • Hog’s Head Brew-Scottish Ale, FL Beer Co. (Hogsmeade)

They also offer Muggle beers such as Newcastle, Yeungling, Amstel Light, Heineken, Stella Artois, and Strongbow Cider.
