Theme Park Update 4/28/23

Disney sues DeSantis

The ongoing feud between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a new turn, with Disney filing a first amendment lawsuit against the governor and the five members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. The lawsuit is centered around the controversial "Don't Say Gay" bill, which seeks to ban the discussion of homosexuality in Florida's public schools.

Disney has been vocal in its opposition to the bill, arguing that it is discriminatory and harmful to the LGBTQ+ community. In response, DeSantis has targeted the entertainment giant, accusing them of playing politics and using their influence to push a left-wing agenda.

The lawsuit filed by Disney alleges that the governor and the tourism oversight district have violated the company's first amendment rights by targeting them for their stance on the bill. Specifically, the suit claims that DeSantis and the tourism officials have threatened to withhold funding and other benefits from Disney if they continue to speak out against the bill.

Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that the battle between Disney and DeSantis is far from over, and will likely continue to be a hot-button issue in the years to come.

Theme Parks experiencing a brief break in crowds before summer begins

While we all know that Disney and Universal no longer really have a “slow” season- we've noticed that wait times and Genie + pricing have been a bit lower lately, which is usually a good sign of less crowds at Disney and Universal. Experts predict that crowds may be slightly lower next week, before the swell of the summer crowds- so we're planning to take advantage and check out Universal for the first time in a while! However, it's important to keep in mind that school field trip season is in full swing (looking at you, Seaworld) and there are also many cheer competitions happening. So, just be aware of that when planning your next park visit.
