Mythos Restaurant at Islands of Adventure

Mythos restaurant at Islands of Adventure has been on Cash and I's list of places to eat for a while. It's been named best theme park restaurant many times, and the reviews I'd read about it definitely made it seem like it was worth trying. My mom and her best friend were in town this week, so we decided to use the occasion to finally check it out!

We went to check in, and they told us it would be a 45-minute wait. We gave them our phone number (and Cash's name because he loves being the "leader of the party") and went off to check out some shops. About 15 minutes later, I got a text saying to come check in. Our table was almost ready.

We checked in, and within 10 minutes, we were being led to our table. The interior is really neat looking; it looks like it's all made of stone. We were seated at a table at the back, next to a large window. We enjoyed getting to see the Hulk take off in the distance and have a view of all of the different islands while we ate. The air conditioning is very robust in here, so you might not want to do any water rides right beforehand.

Our appetizer choice was the spanakopita, and it did not disappoint. All four of us gave it a resounding thumbs up, and it was very filling. The pita chips were delightfully crunchy, and the dip was both warm and flavorful. My mom and her friend went for the tomato soup, which they declared extra tasty, especially when they dipped the house bread into it. I also thought it was super fun that the butter that came with the bread had the Universal logo stamped on it.

During our visit, the restaurant offered a kids’ menu for Cash and a food and drink menu for the rest of us. Although the kids’ menu had a few non-standard pasta options, Cash wasn't interested in the typical grilled cheese or chicken tenders. Instead, he opted for an item from the adult menu: the grilled chicken BLT with tomato jam and pickled onions. The restaurant staff kindly accommodated Cash's preferences and served the jam and onions on the side. Cash loved the flavors and even gave the french fries a big thumbs up.

At the restaurant, I ordered the juicy lamb burger topped with a delicious garlic aioli that dripped from the bun. It was messy but oh so satisfying, as any good burger should be. To upgrade my fries, I added parmesan for just 50 cents, and I'm so glad I did. They were incredibly delicious, and I had trouble stopping, even when I was full. However, my son Cash preferred his fries without the parmesan due to his recent aversion to cheese. Crazy, right?

The restaurant had a wide selection of drinks, including beer and mixed drinks, which we enjoyed during our visit. Cash opted for a large Coke Zero, which was served in a grown-up glass - a bonus for him since he finds kiddie cups insulting. We were offered anything we wanted to go. It always feels kind of funny to me when a server offers you an alcoholic beverage to go, but that's an added bonus to being on vacation in a theme park!

After finishing your meal, be sure to check out the breathtaking view from the back of the restaurant. The scenery across the water is simply stunning. Don't forget to appreciate the intricate details of the building itself. As you cross the bridge back to the park (turn left when exiting the back of the restaurant), pause to listen to the sound of an angry troll under the bridge. This fun detail adds an extra layer of excitement to the dining experience.

I asked Cash for his review, and he summed it up:

"The fries are the BEST EVER, but it's crazy expensive!"

We highly recommend visiting this restaurant at least once during your visit to the theme park. It's a great spot to escape the heat and crowds and enjoy a delicious meal served in real glasses. While the prices may be a bit high, it's worth it for the quality of the food and the overall experience. Although we may save it for special occasions in the future, we were certainly not disappointed and would love to visit again.
